Wireless Thermostat

Project Abstract

Traditional thermostats can only have their temperatures adjusted from one central location. Also, any temperature adjustments must be made in relation to the temperature in that one central location, independent of temperatures in other rooms. We plan to design a portable thermostat with its own digital temperature gauge that can be operated from any location in a household. The portable unit will read the temperature at its current location and relay this through a wireless link to the base thermostat. Adjustments to the HVAC system can also be made from the portable unit. The base thermostat will read the incoming information and activate the appropriate HVAC operations (i.e. heat, ac, etc.). The base will be composed of a personal computer (PC). The PC will hook up externally to a digital temperature gauge, a wireless device, and a test box. This test box will have several LED’s showing the current mode of the HVAC system. The PC will emulate the microcontroller and the user interface of the base thermostat.
