Project Description
Elderly persons, or anyone with a sickness/ailment, generally have to take multiple forms of medication in various quantities. Oftentimes, it is difficult to keep track of what medications you have already taken and when the next time for you to take it will occur. Our project, the automated medication dispenser, will allow up to five medications to be distributed to the consumer at the proper times and dosages. The only setup required for the device is for the specifications of the medicine, such as how many pills should be taken and when, to be inputted to the device. Interfacing to the device will be done through the use of a LCD display screen and a touch keypad. The medication must also be manually placed into the device. An audio and visual alarm will sound when it is time to take the medicine, and the correct number of pills will be made available in a tray. This project will greatly aid in helping an individual remember to take his or her medication. It will also prevent the forgetful-of- mind from taking double doses because the medication will only be available at its correct time. The device will also alert the consumer when the medication is getting low. Other options and capabilities may be added later upon further study.
