LED arrays will be used to display information in a way that mimics standard liquid crystal displays. Information will be sent to the display using the Hitachi Interface because it is the standard in LCD communication; this allows the device to be portable to all systems that use LCDs with the Hitachi Interface. The Hitachi Interface governs the way LCDs are initialized, how characters are accessed, and how characters are represented on the display. The data that is sent to the device will be processed by a microcontroller and peripheral logic devices. The processed information will then be sent to the display which will consist of 5x7 LED arrays arranged to represent multiple rows and columns of characters with each LED array representing one character.
