Robert Guyton Chair of Teaching Excellence

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) seeks a candidate who will provide exemplary instruction and educational leadership. The chair holder will serve as a mentor to junior faculty and assist them in the development of their teaching methodologies. He or she will be active in the technical community while pursuing innovative methods for teaching and learning. The chair holder will conduct funded research, supervise graduate students and publish results. A Ph.D. or equivalent, appropriate experience for rank of professor, and a national reputation for excellence in ECE education is required.

The department has approximately 350 undergraduate and 120 graduate students and 28 faculty members. ECE offers ABET/EAC accredited programs in Electrical Engineering (EE) and Computer Engineering (CPE), as well as M.S. and Ph.D. programs in each discipline. The CPE program is jointly administered with the Department of Computer Science and Engineering. The department secures over $7 million in competitive and directed research funding annually and provides leadership in multidisciplinary research centers within the College and University.

Mississippi State University is a comprehensive land-grant institution with approximately 16,000 students and awards more than 3,000 degrees each year. The Bagley College of Engineering currently ranks 34th among the 322 U.S. engineering schools in engineering and scientific research expenditures. The university is located in Starkville, Mississippi, a vibrant community located approximately 2 hours from Jackson MS, Birmingham AL, and Memphis, TN.
