    Status: DRAFT Updated: 2004-04-29
A number of facilities in Simrall Engineering Building are made available for use by departmental faculty, staff, and students. Access to these facilities is granted as described in this document. Exceptions to this policy are made only at the discretion of the department head.

    I. Card-controlled Access

    1. Accessible Areas

The following entrances and rooms in Simrall Engineering Building have card-controlled access:

      West Entrance
      South Entrance
      S129 Electronic Classroom
      S131 PC lab
      S135 CADD lab
      S203 Electronic classroom
      S206 Senior Design Room
      S302 TA Office
      S323 Design lab
      S329 Microprocessors lab
      S330 Microsystems Prototyping Laboratory (MPL)
      S332 Graphics lab
      S403 Electronics lab
      S427 Projects lab
      S429 ISIP Lab
      S436 Communications lab
    2. Entrances

The South and West Entrances will normally remain unlocked from 7:00 AM until 5:00 PM, and will be card-accessible at all other times. On official university holidays occuring while classes are in session, they will be card-accessible at all times. On holidays occuring in between semesters (e.g., during the winter break), entrances will be card-accessible only by faculty, staff, and graduate students.

    3. ECE Faculty and Staff Access

ECE faculty and staff members have 24-hour access to all card-access areas.

Access to the Electronic Classroom (S203) will be given to faculty and staff members only. The door will be programmed at the beginning of each semester to remain unlocked during scheduled class periods.

    4. ECE Student Access

Student access is given on a semester-by-semester basis. All ECE students
(as listed by the Registrar's office) will be given 24-hour access to the
PC lab, CADD lab, and the South and West Entrances at the beginning of
      every semester.

Any students having problems with card access after the first week of classes should see the Simrall Hall Building Manager in the ECE main office (S216).

Undergraduate student access will extend until the last day of exams. Graduate student access will extend until the first day of classes of the subsequent semester.

    5. Laboratory Access

All ECE students enrolled in laboratory courses held in labs with card-controlled access will be given 24-hour access to that room and the South Entrance. Access will be given at the beginning of the semester and will extend until the last day of classes. Graduate teaching assistants for these courses will also be given 24-hour access to their labs which will extend until the first day of classes of the subsequent semester.

Labs with card access include the following:

      ECE 3254 - Electronics II - room S323
      ECE 3724 - Microprocessors I Lab - room S329
      ECE 4512-4522 - Design Lab - room S323
      ECE 4743 - CADD Lab - room S135

Non-ECE students enrolled in evening sessions of ECE 3281 ("Non-major Electronics Lab") will be given access to the South Entrance and room S403 only during their scheduled lab session.

Access to the Projects Lab (S427) is given by special authorization from the Projects Lab Supervisor only. Authorizations may be obtained by asking the Projects Supervisor to notify the Building Manager in writing or via e-mail.

    6. Special Individual Access

Access other than as stated in this document is given at the discretion of the department head and only with the authorization of an ECE faculty member. Authorizations forms may be obtained in the ECE main office (216 Simrall) from the Simrall Hall Building Manager and must be completed and returned before any access will be granted. Access is granted only for the duration of the current semester unless a later expiration date is specifically requested by the authorizing faculty member.
