High Voltage Lab
The principal objective of the High Voltage Laboratory (HVL), a unique laboratory among universities worldwide, is to provide the necessary environment for a basic academic program in high voltage engineering associated with a broader effort designed to meet the research and testing needs of industry. The laboratory, which was founded by Professor Emeritus Paul B. Jacob, has a long tradition of educating leaders in the power industry.

The 9,000 square foot laboratory with 50 foot high-bay ceilings is located in the Simrall Building and has the capacity to perform impulse tests at 3 million volts and AC tests at 1 million volts. As such, it is the largest independent high voltage laboratory in the U.S.
