ECE Veteran and Former IEEE Journal EiC Receive Career Award

Jenny DuDr. Qian (Jenny) Du received the 2020-21 Career Award from the Bagley College of Engineering. It is the highest award in the College for faculty who have excelled in their teaching, research, and/or service for an extended period of time.

Dr. Du joined the ECE Department in 2004. She is a fellow of SPIE (International Society for Optics and Photonics) and IEEE (The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) for her contributions in hyperspectral image processing and analysis.

Dr. Du was the Editor-in-Chief of IEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Applied Earth Observations and Remote Sensing (J-STARS) in 2016-2020. Under her leadership, J-STARS was successfully flipped to a fully open access (OA) journal in 2020, as one of the first conventional journals transitioned in the OA era. Its annual submission was increased by 30% to more than 1600 papers, and with the trend for further increase. The journal impact factor also continues being improved.

Dr. Du currently serves on the IEEE Periodicals Review and Advisory Committee and SPIE Publications Committee.
