Chongqing University jointly with Mississippi State University organized the 2008 International Conference on High Voltage Engineering and Application (ICHVE 2008), which took place in Chongqing, China, on November 9 - 12, 2008. The conference was a big scientific and social success for the organizers. The total number of participants was over 200 persons, representing 16 different countries.

Three faculty and two Ph.D. Students from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering represented Mississippi State University at the 2008 International Conference on High Voltage Engineering and Application (ICHVE 2008). The Mississippi State University faculty consisted of Dr. Sarah Rajala, Dean of the Bagley College of Engineering and member of the ICHVE 2008 Executive Committee, Dr. Nicolas Younan, Interim Department Head of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Dr. Stanislaw Grzybowski, Professor, Director of High Voltage Laboratory and ICHVE 2008 Co-Chair. The two graduate students were Clayborne Taylor, Jr. and Thongchai Disyadej, both Ph.D. students in Electrical and Computer Engineering.

Mr. C. D. Taylor, Jr. and Mr. T. Disyadej presented papers covering their research activities. The MSU faculty and both Ph.D. students presented a total of four papers at the ICHVE 2008 conference. The papers were covering research activities at MSU High Voltage Laboratory, and were well received; and led to very interesting scientific discussion concluded with suggestions on future cooperation between MSU and other Universities.

The ICHVE 2008 conference was jointly organized by Chongqing University and Mississippi State University as a result of many years of cooperation between the High Voltage Laboratory at MSU and the High Voltage Laboratory at Chongqing University. Two professors from Chongqing University, Dr. J. Li (Head of High Voltage Department) and Dr. R. Liao (Vice Dean of Electrical Engineering College) were Visiting Professors for one year each at the MSU High Voltage Laboratory. Faculty members from both universities have also co-authored on several journal papers and few papers at international conferences. Several graduate students from Chongqing University studied at the MSU High Voltage Laboratory and graduated with M.Sc. degree. One student from Chongqing University is currently enrolled at MSU, pursuing a Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering (High Voltage Engineering).

The ICHVE 2008 Executive Committee recommended that the next conference, the 2010 International Conference on High Voltage Engineering and Application (ICHVE 2010) would be organized, in the USA; by Mississippi State University, jointly with Chongqing University, where Dr. S. Grzybowski will serve as the ICHVE 2010 conference chair. By organizing the ICHVE 2010 conference, Mississippi State University will gain high recognition by the international community working and studying on the power engineering areas and especially by the high voltage engineering experts.
