The Department
of Electrical and Computer Engineering is one of the largest
and the oldest academic units within the Bagley College of
Engineering at Mississippi State University (MSU). Housed
in the 95,000 square foot Simrall Building, the Department
includes 27 faculty members, 10 administrativeand
research support staff members, and typically 35 to 40 graduate
teaching and research assistants. Enrollment includes approximately
650 undergraduate students and 100 graduate students. The
department promotes the relationship between ECE students
and faculty, provides social for ECE students, and hosts meetings
on EE and CPE topics. Alumni, employers, faculty and students
participate in a process used to develop educational objectives
for the undergraduate programs in Electrical Engineering and
Computer Engineering. Students completing the baccalaureate
degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering will obtain a
strong foundation in fundamentals including competence in
mathematics, science, computing, and engineering, will demonstrate
the ability to address unstructured problems specific to technical
specialties in
Electrical or Computer Engineering by identifying and implementing
solutions using the proper tools, practical approaches, and
flexible thinking, interact with others, will both individually
and within multidisciplinary teams using effective oral and
written communication skills and possessing the ability to
deal withboth technical and non-technical subjects when working
with peers, supervisors, and the public, and will develop
an appreciation for the ethical duties incumbent on an Electrical
or Computer Engineering professional including a commitment
to lifelong learning and a concern for society and the environment.
