We will meet in the Simrall auditorium. The links from the presentation on electromagnetics can be found at www.ece.msstate.edu/~jwbruce/emag You need to review them a bit before the exam. It is immensely helpful when building your DC motor to understand how it works so you can troubleshoot any problems that arise. You __MUST__ bring the following to the ECE1002 exam period: * Your ECE1002 clicker Clickers should not have any marks on them and be in good working order. Remove any masking tape you may have placed on your clicker. * A valid snail-mail mailing address for early summer 2011 If you have direct deposit enabled with MSU your clicker refund will probably come that way. For everyone else, a paper check will be mailed to you. You gave us a mailing address at the beginning of the semester. Thursday you have a chance to update/change it to reflect your whereabouts during May-June timeframe when deposit refund checks will be mailed. * A small pocket knife We will need to cut some things and do a bit of scraping to build our DC motor. Bring a pocket knife or an old small steak knife from your kitchen. Swiss army or leatherman type knives are perfect. No 16" hunting knives, machetes, or samurai swords please. * One (1) D cell battery You need a single working (charged) D cell battery to power your DC motor. Raid a flashlight from home or better yet, split a multi pack of new D cell batteries with your team mates. ------------------ J.W. I simply thought that some you might be interested. jwb ==== Dear First-Year Engineering Students, Although you are just beginning your experience here at Mississippi State, you are probably already thinking about possible career paths as you decide on your major. Decisions like this can be challenging to make. One field within Electrical Engineering is power and energy engineering, which focuses on the technology that drives the generation, transmission, distribution, and use of electrical power and energy. Many students are interested in aspects of global warming, energy independence and sustainability. These are cornerstones of modern power and energy engineering. Mississippi State?s ECE Department has particularly strong and well-known programs in both power systems and power electronics. Industry experts predict that in the next 5 years as many as 50% of practicing power engineers may retire. This will create a gap in the workforce and provide an excellent opportunity for qualified graduates. The IEEE Power & Energy Society (PES) has created a scholarship program to help address this need for new power engineers. The IEEE PES Scholarship Plus? Initiative is a unique program that offers both scholarship money and career experience to qualifying U.S. undergraduate students. Awardees can receive up to $7,000 and assistance finding summer work with leading industry employers over three years. If you would learn more about a career in the power and energy industry, please visit the link below. http://www.ee-scholarships.org/undergrads To learn more about the IEEE Power & Energy Society, please visit the following link. http://www.ieee-pes.org ------------------ J.W. However, those who did show up and make their DC motor will receive a bonus grade. We are not sure what that grade will be so please don't ask. If you were not able to stop by today and turn in your clicker, please try to come by Simrall tomorrow and turn it in. I will either post a time that I will be in the student lounge tomorrow, or if it is just a few of you who want to stop by, I can set up a specific time to meet you. Let me know if you have any questions. Matthew -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
