From jsb119 at msstate.edu Wed Jan 9 13:35:00 2008 From: jsb119 at msstate.edu (Jeff Brantley) Date: Wed Jan 9 13:42:46 2008 Subject: [ece3163] Acquiring Signal Processing Toolbox Message-ID: <2107507.1199907300033.JavaMail.jsb119@msstate.edu> Has anyone else looked into getting this toolbox yet? I went to the MathWorks website to look for it, and had to create an account. When I tried to review the various products, I was asked for my current MATLAB version (2007a or Release 14 Service Pack 3). Having Release 14 but with Service Pack 1, I called to ask if either a) I could just say my platform is SP3, or if I could download SP3 to update my current install. The representative interrupted and informed me that toolboxes are no longer available for Release 14, and that I would have to purchase 2007a in order to use a toolbox... Does anyone know of a solution that doesn't involve purchasing MATLAB again? Thanks, Jeff Brantley From fowler at ece.msstate.edu Thu Jan 10 17:47:51 2008 From: fowler at ece.msstate.edu (James E. This hour-long recitation session will be conducted by a graduate student, Naveen Parihar, who has been assigned as a TA for this course. During this recitation, Naveen will work through homework problems and answer other questions you might have about the course. Attendance at the recitation session will be not be mandatory, although I hope that you will find it to be enough help to you to attend regularly. *IMPORTANT* Now comes the hard part - I need to find an hour-long block on Thursdays such that every student in the class can attend. That may mean that the session may be in the late evening. Below is a list of times during which there is a room free in Simrall we can use. I need for everyone to reply to this message indicating in the list below the time slots during which it is impossible for you to attend the recitation session. Please be honest - don't mark a time just because it is inconvenient for you to attend - mark only those times for which you truly have a conflict. With as many people in the class as there are, it is going to be difficult to accomodate everyone, but we will try. If I don't hear from you, I will assume that you have no conflicts with any of the proposed times. *DEADLINE* - respond by 5pm, Monday, January 14. I will announce, via this email list, that evening the time and location at which the recitation will be held. I can't seem to tell from the website whether it is true that they have the toolbox only for 2007a now. In any event, our use of functions specific to the Signal Processing Toolbox in this course is infrequent, so you will almost certainly be OK with your R14 installation. The ECE machines have the Signal Processing toolbox (and a bunch of other toolboxes as well), so, if you encounter a function you need, you can work on those machines. Subsequent courses, in particular Digital Signal Processing, will likely make more use of the Signal Processing toolbox, so you may need to get it eventually. -- ======================================================================= | Dr. James E. I do not need the code for this assignment. However, instead of doing a "screen shot", use the print command (also available on menu for plot window I think - type "doc print" for more info) to print the plot - this results in a much better quality output. Additionally, if you want to cut down on paper, you can direct the print output to a file and then collect several graphs together on a single page using your favorite word processor. -- ======================================================================= | Dr. James E. The last homework before the exam, Homework #3, will be assigned Today (Friday, Jan. 25), and will be due in class Friday, Feb. 1. On Friday, Feb. 1, the entire class period will be devoted to reviewing for the exam. This will consist of a brief overview of the topics we have covered thus far; those topics specifically covered on the exam will also be indicated. The floor will then be open for questions concerning the material, the homeworks, etc. So, come prepared with any questions you may have. I have posted to the class website solutions to the exam that I gave the last time I taught this class - you may find this sample exam useful since the exam you will face will be fairly similar. -- ======================================================================= | Dr. James E.
