The research done in ECE is the latest and most up to date. The department contains several different research units. Units such as the High Voltage Lab ( HVL), the Emerging Materials Research Laboratory (EMRL), the Mississippi Center for Advanced Semiconductor Prototyping (MCASP),the Microsystems Prototyping Laboratory (MPL), the Telecommunication and Information Technology Laboratory (TITL), and the MSU/NSF Engineering Research Center (ERC). These are some of the Mississippi State University research units, and serve as independent, non-industrial, university research centers. The mission of the research units at Mississippi State University is to provide an interdisciplinary research and learning environment. The units have established a tradition of excellence at Mississippi State University and across the nation.
