Equations
Equations are an important aspect of many papers. In order to place
equations into a document, we use Microsoft Equation Editor. This is
found in the toolbar under
Insert >> Object >> Microsoft Equation 3.0
We use this utility not only to insert equations as block text, but
also when naming variables in regular text. Here's an example:
The indented portion, the ordered pairs and the inequality were all
inserted using Microsoft Equation 3.0.
Cross-referencing equations is done using bookmarks. Here's how:
Select the equation by clicking once on it. Go to
Insert >> Bookmark...
Enter a name for the equation, something like "equation00#," depending on
the number of the equation, and click Add.
If you want to see where the bookmark is, go to
Tools >> Options
and check the box marked "Bookmarks" under the "View" tab. Now your
bookmarks should be outlined by gray brackets. The next step is to create
the reference to your bookmark where it is supposed to go. Place the cursor
in the text where you want the reference to go. Go to
1) Insert >> Field
2) Select the "PageRef" option.
3) Select the appropriate Bookmark and check both boxes on the right.
4) Under "Numeric Format:" type in what you want the reference to say
(it does not have to be a number).
5) Click OK.
Now when you mouse over the text you just inserted, a note should appear that
says "Ctrl + click to follow link." When you do that it should
take you directly to the equation to which you assigned it.
