The Electric Ship Project (EShip) is a cooperative effort between the Mississippi State University Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and the Department of Navy, Office of Naval Research to develop a next generation all-electric battleship.
This modern battleship will require reliable control and data communications networks for vital defense and battle systems. MSU's Telecommunications and Information Technology Laboratory (TITL) is dedicated to providing the Navy with the research necessary for developing a high-speed, cost-efficent, and reliable shipboard communications network.
TITL's primary research areas include the development of a fault-tolerant reconfigurable communications backbone for shipboard control and data networks. Further research includes the application of wireless technologies (802.11a/b/g) and embedded computer systems in conjunction with wirless sensor networks for monitoring critical ship systems and relaying environmental and operational data throughout the ship.
Specific research areas are discussed in detail in the Research section.
