Biography
VUC is originally from the Islands of Tonga. Accordion player Chuck Mountain describes the band as, "We just want to have fun and show the world how the Tongalese can lay it down."
The roots of VUC lie in the band Kidney Stone Pilots (not to be confused with Gallstone Mosh Pilots), a group from Sydney that included D. Patty on vocals and Mike Vanderhoffenheisermein on keytar, as well as M&M (Bassist for Above Average Weight Band) on bass and That Guy Bob (Local Tonga Drummer) on drums. Chuck Mountain joined Kidney Stone Pilots quite down near the end as a guitarist. After three years, and only one live show and one jam session recording, the band split up.
After Kidney Stone Pilots split up, Mountain and Patty then formed a new band, Volatile Unsigned Character, based on a poem that Robert Reese wrote entitled "Microprocessors: From Assembly to C with the PIC18Fxx2". They called on Jo-Bee whom they knew from when Kidney Stone Pilots shared a recording studio with Jo-Bee's previous band and when Mountain was their short-lived guitar player. Jo-Bee was originally the band's manager and promoter. He then quickly accepted the offer to join the band as the permanent bassist.
In the summer of 2006, Volatile Unsigned Character released their debut album, "Lynchbot the Cosmonaut". They enjoyed moderate success with their first single "Printf, I Hate You" becoming an underground radio favorite, followed by the singles "Unable to Connect With MPLAB: ICD2" and "Where's The Missing Semicolon?". After the release of the album, VUC toured extensively, opening for Voltage before making their way to the second stage of DIPfest. Following DIPfest, they toured with ... nobody. VUC was scheduled to play the 2007 Family Values Tour, but were kicked off by D. Patty over his inability to sign his name legibly for fans. D. Patty has since admitted that he was a "complete wanker" in relation to this "oversight"[citation needed]. The band have yet to comment on Patty's involvement or commentary. In 2007, the group toured extensively throughout Estonia, Greenland, and the southern-northern U.S.
VUC is currently working on a double-disc "Best Of" Album. The title has not yet been released, but band memeber Jo-Bee says, "This one's gonna blow your socks off chap!" SPOILER: Rumors state the new double-disc album will be entitled "Staff Only, Yeh Right".
Musical style
Volatile Unsigned Character is a reggae/metal/polka band. Says D. Patty: "We're like Metallica meets Peter Tosh meets Ravi Shankar meets you...Hi, my name's D. Patty."
