A student desiring to enroll at Mississippi State:
You would like to enroll at Mississippi State a pursue a:
- Ph.D. degree—If you have a background in one or more of the following areas—image coding, video coding, wavelets, information theory, information security, image and video processing—then complete the following procedure:
Note that I do not generally advise students with expertise outside the list above; however, I do advise both EE and CPE students.
- Complete an application form to formally apply for admission to the university in either the EE or CPE Ph.D. programs. For fall admission, you should complete this application before the end of January in order to allow for ample time for me to evaluate and arrange funding opportunities. Special note for international students: In section IV of the application form, simply sign and date under the “Declaration of Student” section, and leave the rest (sponsor information and signature) blank. A student cannot be awarded a teaching or research assistanceship without first applying and officially gaining admission. The university will not issue an I-20 form for the US visa until proof of financial support is shown; however, the university will process the admission without such proof.
- Once an admission decision is reached, you will be contacted by the university's Office of Admissions (it may take a number of weeks for the processing to be completed after your application is received by the Office of Admissions, as the Office of Admissions receives many applications). When you receive this official notice of admission, send me an email requesting consideration to join my research group. Attach to this email a complete résumé (PDF format only), including all test scores (GRE, TOEFL, TSE, etc.). I will consider your résumé and admissions-application material and contact you by email to discuss research and funding opportunities.
- M.S degree, thesis or non-thesis—I do not generally recruit M.S. students external to the university.
