"Wall-clock time" includes all delays:

1. CPU execution of application software
2. CPU execution of system software
3. Memory access delays
4. I/O delays
5. Loading from other programs

We are primarily interested in 1 as we look at basic CPU design (has the greatest variety of instructions)
