STARKVILLE – The Mississippi State family mourns the loss of MSU M-Club Hall of Famer Dr. Jimmy Lee Dodd, who passed away of natural causes on November 2. He was 87 years old.

Dodd will forever stand as one of the greatest to ever wear the Maroon and White, excelling both in the classroom and in athletic competition. He lettered in football from 1955 through 1957, playing both center and linebacker. The Aberdeen, Mississippi, native picked up numerous accolades along the way, including All-Southeastern Conference and All-American Scholastic Team honors. In 1957, as a senior, Dodd served as co-captain of the football team.

However, he was just as successful away from the gridiron. Dodd earned a pair of degrees from Mississippi State, graduating with his Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering in 1958, then his master's in the same subject in 1962. In his time as a student, Dodd was consistently a President's Scholar and was also voted as Mr. MSU.

Dodd later earned his doctorate in electrical engineering at the University of Texas before returning to MSU as an employee. He went on to teach in the electrical engineering department for over 30 years prior to retiring. Dodd was inducted into the MSU Sports Hall of Fame in 1979 and later spent time as M-Club President.

Mississippi State athletics offers its sincere condolences to Dodd's family and friends and is grateful for Dodd's many contributions to MSU.
