February 10, 2021

Sydney Lee, a Senior from Diamondhead, was recently selected as treasurer for Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Mississippi Section Young Professionals (IEEE YP) Affinity Group Executive Committee. Lee is currently pursuing her bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering at Mississippi State University’s Engineering on the Coast campus.

“Being a young professional can be scary since you are essentially the new kid on the block, and it can be difficult to find your place. This is where the IEEE Young Professional Affinity Group Executive Committee comes in. This group is for young professionals, those within their first fifteen years since graduation from their first degree, that offers networking opportunities among other young professionals,” explained Lee.

She continued “I received an email from Dr. Junbo Zhao (ECE Assistant Professor and Education Committee Chair of IEEE Mississippi Section) about needing volunteers to be officers for the Mississippi Section IEEE YP group. I saw this as an opportunity to expand my networking circle and a good opportunity to meet others within the engineering field.”

IEEE is the world’s largest technical professional organization for the advancement of technology, with over 419,000 members in over 160 countries. “Becoming an active member at a young age and getting involved will help Sydney make great connections and easily further her career after college,” said Carrie Black, Academic Coordinator for Electrical and Computer Engineering at MSU.
