March 15, 2022

Mississippi State University’s former dean of the Bagley College of Engineering and former department head of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department Sarah A. Rajala has been elected as one of the new members of the National Academy of Engineering (NAE).

Dr. Rajala’s honor is for her “innovations in engineering education: outcomes assessment, greater participation and retention of women in engineering, and an enhanced global community.”

Election to the NAE is one of the highest distinctions for engineers and recognizes their contributions to the field, including in education, research, and practice. Rajala will be inducted formally into the class in the fall of this year.

More information on NAE’s new class may be found on the NAE website.

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Mississippi State University consists of 27 faculty members (including 6 endowed professors), 7 professional staff, and over 700 undergraduate and graduate students with approximately 100 being at the Ph.D. level. With research expenditure of the department in excess of $11.94 million, the department houses the largest High Voltage Laboratory among North American universities.
