ECE Assistant Professor Ryan Green serves as the faculty advisor, and the team includes students from Mississippi State University’s Bagley College of Engineering, many of whom are students in ECE.

The team traveled to SoutheastCon, which is the annual IEEE Region 3 Technical, Professional, and Student Conference, in Orlando, Florida.

The 2023 hardware competition, “CAT5 Robots Rebuild the Magic at Duck Gardens,” involved a scenario where teams created robots to help a fictional Duck Gardens in Orlando after it was damaged by a hurricane. The teams had the task of creating autonomous robots that could help animals, clean up debris, and rebuild Orlando. The team advanced to the quarter final round, and then placed in the top eight. More information about the conference and the competition may be found on the website for recent IEEE SoutheastCon 2023.

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Mississippi State University consists of 27 faculty members (including seven endowed professors), seven professional staff, and over 700 undergraduate and graduate students, with approximately 100 being at the Ph.D. level. With a research expenditure of over $14.24 million, the department houses the largest High Voltage Laboratory among North American universities.
